Mendels is based in Katoomba, NSW and she is one of many artists we spoke to who have been fortunate enough to have a garage they could convert into their 'right space'! We love converted garages because they are like blank canvases in which anything can happen. This is The Right Space podcast, where we talk to creatives across all genres and formats about their space and the work that happens there.
#109: Coloured Mud & Hairy Sticks - Hugh Ramage
We had a great talk with Hugh about finding the balance between money and creativity, between art and technology and what it all means for us as a society. Steve Jobs came up in this one! Lots of great insights, as is usually the case when talking to creatives. You're at The Right Space, shining a light on the places where the magic of art begins! Podcast available now on iTunes.

#107: The Stooge - Mat Blackwell
The Stooge! That's what screenwriter and novelist Mat Blackwell calls his 'right space!' The Stooge happens to be a little dungeon beneath his home that he's painted green and decorated with demonic versions of Bananas in Pyjamas. Mat talks to us about his space, his work and a particularly unusual story he wrote that involves sex and poop!
#106: Dreams & Nightmares - Brooke Krumbeck
We loved Brooke's space and had a great time chatting to her about her work, her process and her dreams, which are a source of some of her more macabre images. All of which is produced in the most serene studio over looking a beautiful national park.

He is currently editor of The Chaser Quarterly, a "journal of low-brow satire and high-brow toilet humour" which was first published earlier this year. Second issue is out now and features work from Australia's top comedy writers, including long-form satirical essays and stories to short-form news satire and ad parodies.
#104: The Haunted Studio - Daniel Shipp
We had a great time chatting with photographer Daniel Shipp about his space and his work, which involves a lot of plants! The space itself spoke volumes about the kind of work Daniel does. http://therightspaceshow.com/
#103: Under the Bridge Downtown - Rachel Jordan
Rachel Jordan, theatre director, producer, writer, actor and filmmaker, she wears many hats! We had a fabulous talk with Jordan about her amazing space under the archways of the Sydney CBD light rail and what it takes to found and run a theatre company. Sadly since our recording, the theatre company has been under threat of eviction by the council despite the community rallying against the closure. A true David & Goliath tale. Will the powers that be ever listen to we the people?
#102: Loving Your Mistakes - Kim Leutwyler
Here's what artist Kim Leutwyler has to say about her workspace: "My relationship to this space is extremely intimate because it's in my home. It's not uncommon for me to roll out of bed and wander straight into the studio without getting dressed, brushing my teeth or eating. Luckily I get a coffee headache after a few hours which snaps me back to the real world." You're at The Right Space, shining a spotlight on the settings for creative genius.
#101: 50 Shades of Desk - Craig Pearce
The 'right space' of screenwriter and executive producer Craig Pearce! Pearce, who is based in Sydney, co-wrote with Baz Luhrmann the Australian classic 'Strictly Ballroom', as well as 'Romeo + Juliet', 'Moulin Rouge' and most recently 'The Great Gatsby.' We caught up with Pearce to talk about his very tidy workspace, his life as a globetrotting writer and his current project, 'Will' a TV series about the lost years of William Shakespeare, on which he is the executive producer and showrunner for TNT. We can tell you 'Will' is not what you'd expect!
